Maybe Maybe Not |
When the white man berthed on the shores of Africa and colonized us, they found that the riches in the land were bulging beyond measure so, they built corporations in Africa to harvest these riches. However, they needed people to work in these corporations obediently without having the nerves or thought to question their exploits till they were done milking the land dry. They therefore taught us how to work for the 'slave master'. To hustle and strive day and night without question. They wanted slaves who would be brainwashed to living like kings with shackles on their necks so, they paid us well. Money was coming to our pockets monthly more than we worked for and we got more relaxed and lazier by the paycheck. We looked at them as gods and we worked harder and harder and read more and more in school and with more knowledge, we became greedier. So we took back our land and corporations from the white man and drove them back. Our short happiness turned sour very fast. We were taught to work and not build. We were taught to slave and not manage. We were taught to follow and not lead and the result was that these corporations like the Royal Niger Company, British Bank of West Africa, etc were grounded to bankruptcy. We began to work for and survive on less money but they had made our pockets bigger and our mouths bigger and 'our eye don tear'. But we had started to amass knowledge, we began to find alternative sources of income to pay our bills and feed our family. 'Fast forward to the 21st century'. A new set of 'slave masters' evolved. Companies started paying close to nothing and people were forced to waking up by 5, dragging themselves to work and earning peanuts and be thankful to the 'new slave masters' For giving them an opportunity to be 'slaves'. So we started to seek for our freedom, we began to start businesses in the night, on the weekends, on the public holidays. Not just for freedom but for more money and happiness and it is beginning to pay off. In 2015, the world bank stated that Nigeria has the most female entrepreneurs in the world. Another article wrote that a Nigerian woman is four times more likely to start a business than a woman from another country. New corporations are budding from Africa. Things are looking up. There is hope. In every family, there is at least one person Starting a side hustle, a new company, a new business, a new venture because we realize finally that our jobs can not take care of us, our jobs can not pay our bills, our jobs can not give us happiness and we have began to flourish by taking steps in a new direction. Starting our own businesses while we work for the slave masters and hoping, praying and working till the day that we can buy back our freedom. So please note that. THE SIDE HUSTLE IS NOT ABOUT MONEY, IT IS ABOUT OUR FREEDOM...or you can say 'our freedom to make more money the way we choose. One day it will be fine and when your part time job or side hustle begins to pull in more money than your full time job, you know you have bought back your freedom.
